Previously, discussing her eagerly awaited second album in public would cause Cardi B severe anxiety. However, her confidence has grown with the release of her latest single, “Bongos,” featuring Megan Thee Stallion.
On September 11, during her guest appearance on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, Cardi B revealed more about her upcoming project. When Cohen asked about her future touring plans and album release date, Cardi B responded directly.
“As soon as I finish my album,” she said, adding that “The album will be done this year. And it will be put out next year.”
While this may not be the comprehensive answer fans were hoping for, it’s better than nothing. During the show’s call-in segment, a viewer asked about Cardi B’s long-rumored collaboration with rap icon Lil Kim.
“I really do want [a collaboration with Lil Kim]. I’m going through the songs on my album right now… I want us to have such a great, undeniable song because I know people are going to judge it and be so harsh of it. So, I want to make sure it is the greatest song. But I would love, love, love to do a song with Lil Kim. I love her. And not because she’s Lil Kim but because she’s such a nice person,” Cardi B said.
Cardi B is scheduled to perform at the 2023 VMAs on September 12. Perhaps she will make another album announcement on stage.
Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion are both Warner Music artists. Uproxx is an independent subsidiary of Warner Music Group.
