Before Shonda Rhimes became a household name with her hit series Grey’s Anatomy and other Shondaland productions, she wrote a film for a globally recognized pop star. This film, Crossroads, marked Britney Spears’ first and only leading role and featured an eclectic cast and a variety of musical numbers.

In the film, Spears played Lucy, a small-town girl who embarks on a road trip with her best friends, portrayed by Taryn Manning and a then-unknown Zoe Saldana, just before they graduate high school. The film is filled with laughter, tears, and even a suspected murderer. The star-studded cast also includes Justin Long as a love interest, Kim Cattrall, and Dan Aykroyd as Spears’ parents. The plot could easily be mistaken for a Sex and the City episode.

Crossroads is set to have a limited release this October to coincide with the release of Spears’ upcoming memoir, The Woman In Me. The film will be screened at 875 locations across the country and will feature a bonus sing-along of two Spears songs for an in-theater concert experience. The movie will be in theaters on October 23rd and 25th, offering fans the opportunity to pair it with an Eras Tour/Crossroads event if they wish.
