Former lovers Drake and SZA have teamed up to release a new single, “Slime You Out,” which dropped at midnight on September 15. The two artists previously hinted at their past relationship in Drake’s 2020 collaboration with 21 Savage, “Mr. Right Now,” and SZA confirmed they dated during the release of her sophomore album, “SOS,” last year.
Recently, fans have speculated on TikTok that the pair have been subtly communicating with each other through their music over the years. These theories suggest that hidden messages can be found in their songs throughout their careers.
In “Slime You Out,” Drake returns to his R&B roots, crooning over what appears to be a slowed-down Jersey Club beat. His lyrics hint at spoiling a woman, singing, “Sent wires on wires on wires, like Idris / Lucky that I don’t take back what is given.” SZA counters with accusations of unfulfilled promises, singing, “Fightin’ out here, like you d*ckin’ me out / And I ain’t even comin’ over now / And you ain’t ’bout the sh*t you rappin’ about.”
The song is a precursor to Drake’s ninth studio album, “For All The Dogs.” Despite the palpable romantic tension in the track, whether genuine or contrived, the musical synergy between the two artists is unmistakable. “Slime You Out” is now available for listening.
“For All The Dogs” will be released on September 22 via Republic Records and OVO. More information can be found here.
