Lizzo has been facing some legal challenges recently, with multiple lawsuits filed against her, including allegations of harassment from former dancers. However, she set these issues aside for a moment on September 21 to accept the Quincy Jones Humanitarian Award at the Black Music Action Coalition Gala.
During her acceptance speech, an emotional Lizzo thanked the Black Music Action Coalition, saying she needed this recognition at this time. She didn’t prepare a speech, expressing uncertainty about what to say in such circumstances.
Lizzo then discussed her humanitarian and activist work, emphasizing the importance of doing the right thing even when no one is watching. She pledged to continue being herself, shining a light on those who help others, amplifying the voices of marginalized people, and creating safe spaces for fat Black women.
Lizzo is signed to Warner Music, while Uproxx is an independent subsidiary of Warner Music Group.
