At the 2023 MTV Video Music Awards held on Tuesday, September 12, Saweetie proved her mettle, while teleprompters fell short. The rapper hosted the VMAs pre-show and also presented during the MTV broadcast. During the pre-show, Saweetie stumbled over her words while leading into a commercial break, an incident that was shared by a fan account on X (previously known as Twitter). This minor hiccup led to some online criticism before she returned to introduce a performance by Stray Kids at the VMAs.
Saweetie addressed the incident in her return, saying, “Hey, what’s up, y’all? It’s me again. And y’all better stop making my little stutter video go viral. I see what you’re doin’. Anyways, let’s try it again!” This was captured in a clip posted on X by BET.
The rapper has been hinting at her debut album, Pretty B*tch Music, for over two years. In an interview with E! News in March, she discussed the delay of the album’s release. She emphasized that a debut album is a serious undertaking and not something to be rushed.
Meanwhile, Selena Gomez, who was seated next to her collaborator Rema, appeared displeased when Chris Brown was announced as a nominee for Best R&B. A video of her reaction went viral online. Later, she addressed the incident on her Instagram Story (which has since expired), writing, “I will never be a meme again. I’d rather sit still than be dragged for being myself. Much love.”
Saweetie is signed to Warner Music, while Uproxx is an independent subsidiary of Warner Music Group.
