Selena Gomez’s latest track, “Single Soon,” has sparked a wave of speculation about whether it was inspired by one of her famous exes, with some fans suggesting it might be about The Weeknd. The song’s opening verse, which includes lines like “Should I do it on the phone? / Should I leave a little note / In the pocket of his coat? Yeah / Maybe I’ll just disappear / I don’t wanna see a tear / And the weekend’s almost here,” has added fuel to the fire.
However, Gomez has now put an end to these rumors. Responding to an Instagram post by Hollywood Life that highlighted the speculation about The Weeknd, Gomez commented, “Couldn’t be more false.”
Interestingly, The Weeknd did recently come up on Gomez’s radar for another reason. She came across an AI-generated recording that made it sound like she was singing “Starboy,” to which she simply responded, “Scary.”
Gomez also recently discussed her classic hit “Who Says,” revealing that the song was initially meant for another artist while she was working with Disney. She said, “I cried — I remember I was with my mom — because I loved the song so much. […] And so maybe it just didn’t work out with the other artist, but that was a gift to me that I did not know I needed. I love that song, and it has carried with me through my whole career, and I fought for it. So to be honest, I, to this day, need to hear it.”
