The 2023 MTV Video Music Awards took place on Tuesday, September 12, featuring a star-studded lineup of performers including Taylor Swift, Doja Cat, Diddy, Olivia Rodrigo, Cardi B, Hot Girl Meg, Metro Boomin, and Shakira. The event also saw a reunion of NSYNC, a TikTok post from Justin Timberlake and Megan Thee Stallion, Selena Gomez vowing to never become a meme again, and Taylor Swift enjoying her time off from The Eras Tour.

However, fans were left wondering why Victoria Monét was in the audience but not on stage. They expressed disappointment that she was not given the chance to showcase her impressive vocal abilities. Responding to her fans on social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter), Monét expressed gratitude for their support and revealed that her team was told it was “too early in my story” for her to perform at the event. She assured her fans that she would continue working towards such opportunities.

Lauren Jauregui responded to Monét’s post, expressing her love for Monét and criticizing the decision to not let her perform.

In late August, Monét released her album Jaguar II, which received positive reviews from critics including Uproxx’s Wongo Okon. Fans can still catch Monét live as she embarks on The Jaguar Tour which extends into October.
